A Cancer Council ad encouraging women to band together and fundraise for a widespread disease inspired one young girl to make a difference. Cory Dowd celebrated her ninth birthday with a Girls Night In. Mum Alisha Pusell said it was a simple decision while they were watching TV. “An ad for Girls Night In came on, and she asked me ‘What’s that for?’,” she said. “I told her it’s a fundraiser and she just said ‘Well can I do that too?’ I explained that would mean people would bring money instead of presents and she was fine with that.” Cory’s decision to donate was simple enough. “I know there’s lots of cancer around and I want to find a cure,” she said. The party was a lovely afternoon at their local park, with lots of pink decorations and icing, making sure the pinkness was blinding. Attendees were all dressed in pink and were treated to a pink One Direction cake. Having smashed original target of $300 in donations from family and friends, Cody has succeeded in her contribution to fighting this cause.
