The March Charge is now underway, with over 9000 people taking part in raising much-needed funds for life-saving cancer research. Sticking to a fitness challenge for a month is tough, but we’ve got your covered with our top tips for Charging to the finish line.
1. Make your goal achievable
Your goal will be your key motivation, but it can be difficult to stay motivated for a whole month if it’s too hard or easy.
Now that you’ve started your Charge, you should have an idea if the goal you set for yourself is right for your fitness level. Simply adjust it if it isn’t.
2. Be accountable
If you are Charging on your own, get friends and family to help you stay on track. They can support you in hitting your goals and even giving you that extra push.
Having an accountability partner also raises the bar and makes it harder to slack off.
3. Schedule your Charge
Schedule a designated time each day or week for when you’ll complete your Charge. Stick it in your phone or diary so you don’t forget.
Life is full of distractions so consider waking up early to do your Charge. It will mean that you don’t have to think about it for the rest of the day. You can come home from work and spend your time on the things you enjoy.
4. Track your Charge
Make sure you’re tracking your progress using Strava, FitBit or MapMyFitness, which syncs with your fundraising page and adds to your total kilometres achieved.
By tracking your Charge, you can see how well you’re doing in hitting your goals which motivates you to keep going.
5. Take progress shots and measurements
Seeing your progress is a visual source of inspiration. Take photos and measurements over the month so you can see what progress you make at the end.
6. Eat well
You should eat a healthy diet to fuel your workout and aid your recovery after training.
Remember to drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated over the month. A helpful tip is to carry a water bottle around with you. You can also set reminders on your phone to drink water.
8. Get adequate rest
Make sure your body has plenty of rest between Charges by getting seven to eight hours of sleep each night. Rest allows your body’s muscles to rebuild and grow and reduces your risk of injuring yourself.
By following these tips you’ll be on track to successful March Charge. Not only will you gain a strong sense of achievement from challenging yourself but every dollar you raise will make an enormous impact on how cancer is researched and treated.
