Calling all Community Service Organisations that are passionate about supporting people to quit smoking!
By Cancer Council NSW
The Tackling Tobacco team are excited to announce that Expressions of Interest (EOIs) are NOW OPEN for Community Service Organisations to apply for the 2024/2025 round of the Tackling Tobacco program, and will close COB Friday 12th April.
Tackling Tobacco is an organisational change-based program that aims to embed smoking cessation support within organisations that support people experiencing social, economic or cultural disadvantage. It is our vision to end tobacco-related disparities in priority populations in NSW.
Cancer Council NSW has implemented the program in over 250 services across NSW since 2006, and they’re looking to recruit more not-for-profit, non-Government organisations and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations that are passionate about helping people quit smoking.
The program is FREE to join and works by delivering evidence-based training for staff and volunteers, offering financial grants of up to $5000* for eligible organisations, sharing a suite of smoking cessation resources, and facilitating monthly steering group meetings. Successful organisations will also have dedicated a Cancer Council staff member for the program duration to support and guide organisational changes, such as smoke-free signage and policy updates.
“There has been a greater uptake in using Nicotine Replacement Therapy products; there have also been fewer clients smoking [on site]. We have found that clients are more forthcoming and seek extra support from their clinicians.”
